The Whole You
by Wendy Humphris, ROHP It never fails: you decide now is the time to lose some weight or change your eating habits and you suddenly start craving sugary, high-calorie food. These cravings are both physiological and psychological, and a lot may have to do with your gut microbe. Neuroscientists have evidence that specific types of gut flora are responsible for helping detect which nutrients are missing in the body and what food is required in order to fulfill the need.

by Wendy Humphris, ROHP Mindfulness is something you may have seen in the devotional section of bookstores, as part of a yoga DVD, or in various health and wellbeing stores. You may already know that there are different aspects to mindfulness, including meditation. What you may not know are the benefits of mindfulness in your life. Before you think there is too much involved and not enough reward for that involvement, consider these three benefits of mindfulness in your life.
by Wendy Humphris, ROHP When lunchtime rolls around, you want to be able to put together a simple meal that is nutritious, filling, and doesn’t take a lot of time. The following lunch ideas will fit all of these requirements.
Wendy Humphris, ROHP Believing in yourself is often touted as the cause of success. But if you have low self-esteem, it’s not easy to believe in yourself. You may struggle to step outside of your comfort zone and look for a way to make your life better. You may believe that you don’t have the means to better yourself or that you don’t deserve a better life.
Wendy Humphris, ROHP Self-esteem is how you view yourself. It’s the lens you look through when you consider who you are. If you have low self-esteem, you may view yourself in a negative way. Instead of thinking about how you have the gift for communication, you see yourself as someone who just can’t shut up.
Wendy Humphris, ROHP Low self-esteem can cause negative self-talk. This can further lower your self-esteem causing a vicious cycle where you continually feel bad about yourself. The good news is that you can change the way you talk to and about yourself. When you conquer negative self-talk, your self-esteem will improve. You’ll gain more self-confidence and you’ll feel more optimistic about your life in general.
If you’re ready to break the cycle of negativity, you need to understand these essential truths. Wendy Humphris, ROHP When your self-esteem begins to rise, you realize you have options you never hoped for. Suddenly, your future isn’t bleak and depressing. It’s exciting and filled with new opportunities and experiences. Rather than dreading the future, you’re anticipating it. So, what’s next? How do you get from where you are today to that bright, shiny future that you’re looking forward to?
Wendy Humphris, ROHP Since the 1970’s, a new food trend came about with the goal to reduce sugar intake in people. This was believed to be a way for people to more easily manage weight, and the idea was that less sugar means less calories, and of course therefore less weight gain, but is that really the case? After another 30 years of research, science has releases many of the findings, and it looks like things aren’t exactly as they appear. The next few paragraphs will tell you what you need to know about artificial sweeteners.
Wendy Humphris, ROHP The holidays can be a great time of joy for many. But for others, they are filled with anxiety and stress. Sometimes, even for those that love the family get-togethers, the stress of holiday shopping, finances, and hosting relatives can tear them apart. When stress hits at this time of year, it’s easy to turn to that tray of cookies for moral support. After all, cookies won’t criticize you about your life choices the way your family will.
by Wendy Humphris, ROHP Stress is unavoidable, but also manageable. If you feel like your stress levels have been up lately, it's time to be mindful of ways to lower these levels before you begin feeling worse and noticing the ramifications in other areas of your life. Stress management is a crucial part of overall health, and finding what works for you is just as important. Here are my favourite ways to lower stress naturally...
