Here is a really great recipe....for those of you that like recipes.
I like it, but as you may know, I'm a 'throw it together' kind of cook. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, that's how I learned to cook and learned what flavours work together and which ones don't.
This recipe is great, but for an even easier, "GOTTA HAVE IT KNOW" recipe simply take your ripe avocados, mash them up and add some salsa to the right consistency. You can add a extra splash of lime or lemon juice, more crushed garlic if you like and dig in.
And as always, You're Welcome.
To make this easy guacamole recipe, simply gather up the following guacamole ingredients:
Avocados: The riper, the better.
Diced red onion: Red, white or green, whichever one you love most. I love the flavour of red onion in guac, but if you would like to make it a bit milder, just rinse and drain the chopped onion in water briefly before adding it to the avocados.
Cilantro: If you happen to be part of the 14% of the population that doesn’t like fresh cilantro, just skip it. I'm one of those 'haters'...yuck.
Jalapeño: Or you can use Serrano pepper instead, or not at all. You be YOU.
Lime juice: Freshly-squeezed, please! Or Lemon if you prefer, never bottled.
Fine sea salt: A critical ingredient to bring out all of those good flavours! Himalayan salt works well too.
Ground cumin: I’ve always added a dash to my homemade guacamole, and I’m convinced it’s the secret ingredient that rounds out all of those flavours and makes people love it so much. This is what gives it that tex-mex flavour. YUM.
Diced tomatoes: I’m not a big fan of tomatoes in my guac, but feel free to add them if you would like!
Garlic: Not for the faint of heart and maybe not a traditional addition, but some crushed garlic is always good in whatever you love.
HOW TO MAKE GUACAMOLE:
Alright, let’s talk how to make guacamole dip! Simply…
Mash your avocados: Add them to a large mixing bowl and mash with a fork or spoon until they reach your desired consistency. (I like mine slightly chunky, not completely smooth.)
Mix in the remaining ingredients: Add in the onion, cilantro, jalapeño (or Serrano), lime juice, salt, cumin, and tomatoes (if using) and stir until combined.
Taste and season: Give the mixture a taste, and season with extra salt if needed. Or…
For a tangier guac, add more lime juice.
For a spicier guac, add in another jalapeño or Serrano. (Or you can include the seeds for extra heat.)
